Is this the prettiest town in Andalucia?

With its whitewashed walls, mountain views, red slate roofs and geranium displays, is Frigiliana the prettiest town in Andalucia?

Situated up in the hills behind the Costa del Sol, Frigiliana is a short but winding drive from the resort town of Nerja. Easy access makes it a popular day trip but it retains a sleepy and somewhat arty vibe.

I’m a sucker for anywhere that can be described as having a labyrinth of narrow streets, particularly when they’re painted white and festooned with bougainvillaea. Add in some blue doors (what is it about blue doors?), artisan ceramics, and cute wine bars, and it scores pretty highly on my Mediterranean Idyll Index.

Be warned: the streets can be steep and the road from Nerja is windy!

What do you reckon? Is this the prettiest town in Andalucia, or do you have another contender?

Beautiful! Love your photos. I have not made it to Andalucia yet, so I will have to take you word for it. Frigiliana does look like a lovely city to walk around and explore and photograph!

I’ve never heard of Frigiliana before – it actually looks like what I imagine Greece to look like(though I’ve yet to make it to Greece – it’s just the picture in my head!). Stunning photos! I love Spain but only made a quick stop through one Andalucian town – Seville. I’d love to go back and explore more of the region.
